[top]How did the outbreak start?

Clues:
  • Could happen in rings around certain areas in cities.
  • Happened in islands like Hawaii where they differed from the zombies at the tower.
  • Couldn't have been random as it happened in several different areas all at the same time.
  • The area around Inglewood is known as "Ground Zero" and is thought to be where the outbreak originated.
  • Around Ground Zero people experience difficulty breathing and nausea which could be related to the cause of the outbreak.

[top]How do the zombies decide between turning a human or using them as food?

Clues:
  • At a store during the first supply run, half of the bodies were human while the other half were infected.
  • A pile of infected bodies were kept outside of the arena.
  • Inside the arena there was a pile of human remains used as food.
  • Riley describes people turning as the result of contact with blood sprayed during an attack--not a decision-making process.

[top]Where was Tommy originally from?

Clues:
  • He says Kelly was "babysitting" him and his sister, Lucy (who was turned very soon after the initial outbreak).
  • He says, "None of this would have ever happened if Mom hadn't dumped us with you!", implying that wherever he was from was safe.

[top]Who tipped off the Mallers with the radio (aka: Who is The Rat?)

Clues:
  • Kelly tried to organize the first mutiny
  • People were in talks about somebody else taking over
  • Shots were fired from a 3rd floor window, which ended negotitaions between the tower and the mallers.
  • Bill stole supplies from Riley's Shop and Burt's Gun Store
  • Bill had a rather eerie moment when the Mallers showed up. He said that the party didn't have to stop just because the lights were out and then laughed a rather creepy laugh
  • Bill shouted an invite (when possibly drunk) from a window for the Mallers to join the party
  • Although Michael and Burt defended Bill for "fighting alongside them 'til the bitter end", Bill never actually fired a shot against the Mallers. He was killed in a pipe bomb explosion shortly after coming down with his shotgun
  • Bill's last words were "I'm sorry"
  • Scratch says in conversation with Tardust that there is someone already there, but she hasn't responded for a while.
  • After Chapter 24, it seems likely that Kalani could have been the rat, because the mallers may have held someone he knew hostage. He also kept his journal hidden.
  • After Chapter 28, Kalani reveals himself to be the rat in his journal, encouraging the Mallers to strike the Tower during the party, so as to be reunited with his daughter Hannah, kept in hostage. While Tanya speculates that he may not have written it, Datu states that only Kalani was the only person with him in the motor-pool, thus seemingly confirming Kalani's journal was indeed written by him.

[top]Who shot Pippin and the radio? And are they the same person as The Rat?

Clues:
  • A silenced weapon was used, a silenced pistol seemed to be missing from Burt's bag.
  • Pippin is revealed to be a rat, so the shooter is possibly the rat, who has changed sides and is now wanting to protect the tower.
  • Right before Pippin is shot, he says "You!", implying he knew the shooter.
  • The assassin went to great lengths to ensure Pippin was the only person harmed, even triggering an alarm in Burt's room to draw people away.

Clues:

  • It can input numbers into a keypad after a few attempts.
  • It can run very quickly
  • It understands the danger of weapons
  • It can catch arrows
  • It is covered in tattoos and that makes it possible that it could be Bill Roberts aka "Ink", who was transported to a mental hospital after his trial, as is mentioned in Chapter 2-3
