Nakoma

Background

• A child on a Ute Tribe reservation when the nuke went off in Boulder, Colorado. Lived alone with her mother, Leora Burch, a professional toxicologist who dedicated her career to assisting indigenous people with chemical exposures.
  
• Leora developed a wide range of treatments, including anti-venoms from snakes and medicines extracted from specific frogs she raised for study, maintained in a sophisticated self-sustaining terrarium ecosystem she'd established years before society's collapse. After the global crisis began, this medicinal knowledge -- and tools like the blowgun and toxin-tipped darts -- were adapted out of necessity into a means of defense.
  
• Nakoma calls this knowledge the "gift" her mother left her, coating her darts in these toxins to defend herself against both the living and the infected, occasionally returning to the hidden reservation site to harvest more.
  
• The reservation was later overrun by a mutated, thick-skinned variant of the Little Ones following the Boulder blast, decimating her community -- as far as she knows, she was the only survivor of her people.
  

Personality

• Slightly older than Nicholas Tink, an orphan like him but shaped by a far harsher solitude. Carries the reputation of a "bad girl" -- unpredictable and unwilling to be controlled. Resourceful, highly experienced in the field, and fiercely capable, moving with quiet confidence and lethal precision. A pilot, able to fly when necessary.
  
• Her most feared skill is her mastery of poisons -- properly prepared, her Golden Frog toxin can kill in moments. Though hardened, she is not heartless; strong but kind beneath the armor, protective, observant, and deeply intuitive. At times acts as poison in Nicholas's ear, challenging his trust and pushing him toward harder truths, but in the end she just longs for friends and acceptance.
  

Notable In The Series

• Initially works as a trapper specialist for The Boar, complicit in Primm's operations before later seeking redemption and helping undermine Primm from within.
  
• Paralyzed by Vincent and later killed, completing her arc from captor to ally.
