From the moment of his release, defined by conflict -- angry, volatile, and driven by the purpose his father imposed on him: to cleanse the world. But unlike a simple predator, he begins to question what that purpose truly means. Like Nicholas Tink, he is searching for balance and identity, and never knew his father either.
Understands the infected not as enemies or monsters but as a connected species, communicating with them through an ancient biological language encoded in memory and genetics -- he can interpret their story and their evolution, and his new form of infection can unite them all.
The infected grow more stable as they breed, experiencing less cognitive conflict between human memory and infected instinct; Coal exists beyond that struggle entirely -- his mind is already evolved, whole. He teaches himself to speak and studies both humanity and the infected; his isolation is incubation, not weakness.
