Well, it's actually 50/50 vocabulary wise. Half original Germanic words and half loan-words, but your overruling makes sense.

Considering that over 60% of English words have their roots in Latin in everyday usage--over 90% in sciences--I would say it makes perfect sense. Let's not discount French either.

As for chair caner, I'm only to find a vague reference one one website, and that's the name OF the website. It does not appear to be common enough to be a widely accepted collocation. Chair caner shall not pass.
