One segment in that final conversation, I immediately rewound and turned up to make sure I heard Scratch correctly. THE Family. My first thought was The Family from Torchwood: Miracle Day. I just so happened to be re-listening to "Mark of the Beast" yesterday and again now. Part 2/3 at 8:23:

"They will follow us and find us no matter where we go. That thing on the ground is just the beginning, and Durai understands that."

It would seem that Durai (and possibly Scratch) know a whole lot more about what is going on. With the rings now having come to light, I wonder if maybe The Family had something to do with, or had inside knowledge on the Zombie apocalypse.

Why would a secret society world ending conspiracy want/need "common" thugs and convicts? If The Family was behind it and they are as powerful as they would need to be, they would need 'agents' everywhere.

I was listening to Number Stations for a bit on the computer and my cat jumped on my keyboard. Since Zune was open to get the above time code, she managed to push the Play button hot key and launched an episode of WA. That was CREEPY. WA Soundtrack with Number stations in the background.

From this episode we know that Angel was connected with one of "the Families" and named after his father. I'm assuming the Families refers to the Mafia. There was a famous Mafia hitman named Frederick "The Angel" Tenuto. His last name and our Angel's are spelled differently, and there's a big time gap between the two, but I think it's too close to be a complete coincidence.

Tenuto escaped from the Philadelphia County Prison along with Willie Sutton in 1947. He spent 10 years on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, and is rumored to have died in the early 60s.

The timeline seems to be consistant for Frederick "The Angel" Tenuto to have been his grandfather though.

I'd say throat but that would be to quick....Something tells me the chef wants to try out her kitchen knife skills on Ms Scratch.

Take away Scratches knives and stick them in all her vital organs, in alphabetical order. Chefs do that, right?

You mean you don't know yet?! Michael has been dead since before chapter one. We've been reading his journal entries. But he dead already, son.

My crackpot theory is that the entire retelling is a deposition being taken by a lawyer. (other then Kelly) From a jail cell. Micheal's Jail cell.

So when Scratch said "You have your dad's name" (14:35)... generally, extensive background checks would include immediate familial relations. They would likely know who his father was, the ties he had, etc. But, names can be changed well enough to... oh wait... no, if that were true, his criminal history wouldn't show up either... hmmm... holes in your theory.

I doubt Angel was a going around with LA gangs slingin' rock and jackin rides. I'm sure he did enough to get his nose a little dirty but all in all he was a Boy Scout. The Military isn't big on kicking you out based on your family... Mohamed Farrah Aidids (Somalia warlord and all around dick) had a son that was in the USMC, I think no one in the military would care if Angel had a wise guy for a dad.
