I'm personally a little interested in the abandonded hummer....when/why/how etc....
Ah, good point. I just took a quick glimpse of the distance. I'm too lazy to actually look up what cities lie between them. But I am going to assume you are right. I don't think KC would overlook something like this, especially when our heroes were trying to flee California and found so much congestion. Since it was brought up then, I'm thinking that the freeway between Boulder and Ft. Irwin must be fairly clear of traffic and debris.
That's also likely. I'm sure that they would want to create a safe route between Boulder and Irwin so that supplies and people didn't have to rely on a C-130 for travel.
Random thought of the day:
Started yet ANOTHER relisten to the whole series, when describing Saul, Michael says he came from the mountain division....couldn't handle the cold.
1 - a nod to future setting?
2 - Sauls got the base virus and would freeze in the cold, hence hating it so much, lol
3 - Saul stayed in the colony for the climactic reasons, it goes way deeper than Lizzy's bun in the oven.
Let's see if we can build the story around the clues:
It's was dead but no blood on the hummer.
There were bullets left, but it wasn't the casing.
It seem to be there for a while.
All the doors were open.
Maybe the hummer just died and the troopers were more to another transportation.
Odd that no one came by bring it back to the base for repair.
or the fact that he's black. black people have more melanin in their skin which reflects sunlight, so he would be more suited to a sunnier, and warmer, environment than say a colder climate where it also tends to be cloudier, and where he would be more susceptible to sun deprivation based illness. on the reverse, us white folk can better live in places with a lot of cloud cover, because we have less skin pigment and absorb more sunlight, making better use of the time when the sun is actually out. germany, for my brief years there, was cloudy like, all the time, and also pretty cold. then again, some people just don't like the cold
Corporal Puck couldn’t believe how badly he’s fouled things up. It was supposed to be a simple supply run to the outpost outside Yermo, just drop off some recruits and a couple of truckloads of supplies. But something had gone wrong, and now he and his little convoy were lost on a lonesome stretch of highway.
He looked to the private driving the hummer. “Pull over, I need to check the map”. It only took a moment to confirm the ugly truth, he should have turned right when he hit I-40, not left!
“Driver, what’s your name? Did you catch that road sign back behind us?”
“It’s Carl, corporal. The sign said Newberry Springs”. That was bad! They’d gone a good 30 miles in the wrong direction, and they were deep in un-patrolled territory.
Thinking fast, Puck announced, “Okay, we’re at the limit of our patrol. Let’s turn around and head back to the outpost”. Carl put the hummer in gear and started a wide turn, the three 5-ton trucks following slowly.
But just as the hummer reached the edge of the road everything went to hell. The 50 caliber on the lead 5-ton opened fire, shooting over the top of the hummer. Carl, startled, let go fo the wheel and the hummer careened into the ditch by the side of the road. He threw it into reverse, but they were in too deep a hole to get out under their own power.
Puck was out in a flash, looking in the direction that the truck was still firing. Zombies. A whole field full of them moving toward the freeway.
“Everybody out,” he shouted to Carl and the three recruits crammed in the back. “Grab your shit and get in the trucks...now!”
Carl grabbed his rifle, but somehow released the magazine, which fell base-first to the floor well, ejecting 5.56mm rounds around the cabin. Carl grabbed the emptied magazine and started to collect the rounds, but stopped when he heard Puck shout for him to, “Leave them!”.
As his little convoy sped away from the abandoned hummer Puck couldn’t help wondering how he was going to explain all this to Colonel Kimmet.
true that, but i figured since the two most volatile members of the fourm (osi and myself) have reached an understanding towards each other, and the rest of the folks here are intelligent and open minded enough to not fly off the handle, i figured it was safe to mention.
The Newberry in question is south and east of Fort Irwin in Southern California. More than 1,000 miles from Boulder.
Dont see why not. I had forgotten puck mentioned that.
The latest episode. Makes me believe that Michael is being court marshaled for his actions. The whole thing is leading up to where Datu fixes the pelican. Then Michael and the chopper pilot ( i forgot his name.) takes off and flies to find Pegs and Kelly. Then they head on down to the colony to help out the gang down there. The one thing that just popped in my head is when Michael said in chapter 29 that he idiot that he let her go. Makes me think that Pegs and Kelly didn't survive the blast.
Riley's voice sounded different in this episode.
I like the theory that he's being court marshaled. However, we know that Michael keeps a log of events that have occurred, which throws the nature his statement about his idiocy into doubt. In scenario one (aka the Fiveshadowing), Michael adds the comment about being an idiot much later after Pegs leaves/after he knows that she is dead (this scenario contributes to theories like: it's a court marshal, Charlie Brown and the last man alive.) Scenario two states that Michael wrote that he was an idiot the next time he updated his log (not long after her departure.) In this scenario, that comment could either be a fiveshadowing or a red herring. It's difficult because we don't hear Michael express emotions often. So, that line stands out because it seems to be expressing guilt, anger and a degree of powerlessness. And it's the latter that really makes it hard for me to place it. I think of Michael as a "take charge" kind of person. But we've definitely seen a more passive side to him, especially since he arrived at Fort Irwin.Quote:

The fact that we haven't heard from Kegs might mean that we're getting some emotional distance from the characters before they're revealed to be dead or it might mean that they're out there, still kicking. Or we're getting some distance now so that their story can be told later and my elation at hearing Pegs' voice will be that much more ironic when they are revealed to be dead.
(I really love that line, while both ruing and lamenting its existence, because it could support a bunch of different theories.)
I don't really foresee a Court-marshal strictly because its a world gone mad. They just lossed upwards of 7000 soldiers. You need every man you can get.
Possible punishment, if any, demotion or death by firing squad. But I think getting his stripes torn off his shirt will do little to nothing in the world they currently live in.
Just my opinions, but I will be looking forward to see what Kimmet does having such dissension in his ranks. My guess is he will just get all emo about all the things that have gone wrong under his watch. Michael will get him to snap out of it by telling him what he told Robbins. "you can't control all that" etc.
Kimmet has to be on the verge of breaking. He lossed his daughter, lossed Boulder, even Puck said "probably crapping his pants about now, never lead anything like this before". He is in over his head now and its moments like these where people like Michael ultimately take control of the situation and the former leads (Kimmet) allow someone else to clean up their mess.
Wouldn't Kimmet be court martial first, him not listening to his Intel Officer cause this whole mess. His Intel rep told him not to send the body to Boulder and he ignored him.
Sidenote: Your signature remind me of the movie Twister: "There a cow. And there another cow. Nope, that the same cow."
One of my favorite movies haha. My sig was just a little Re-Write of Michael's favorite saying

Don't forget that Saul is originally from Los Angeles. As a fellow Californian I can confirm that you can grow up here and never, ever experience truly cold weather. In my case I left California when I joined the Army and suffered during every winter I was away. Kentucky and Texas were bad. Germany was brutal. I could not have handled living in Buffalo, where the "Mountain Division" that Saul was assigned to is based.
As far as the weather at The Colony, it wouldn't be significantly different from the weather in Downtown LA.
Does anyone think that Iriwin might get blowed up at some point and we will end up back in LA, where it all began? Michael goes and saves Datu and Hope. On their way back they are notified that Iriwn is getting overrun and Kimmet orders evac and detonation of Irwin. Kimmet stays behind to set off the nuke(because his daughter is dead, he has got nothing left). Michael stops at one of the checkpoints to rescue Tanya and low and behold Pegs and Kelly are there with Riley. They book it out of there with the Pelican back to LA, where the location of the sat phone call came from.
Mh. Not sure ... We have the nuke, we have plenty of Little Ones approaching ... At least it would not be too farfetched. But I am not sure if there is a real need for blasting Irwin anyway ...
About Kimmet ... Mh. Really hard to tell. I consider him being a person capable of putting a bullet into his head; but I am not so sure anymore. He is way too egoistic and wishywashy to play 'the honorable proud captain' with nuking Irwin while staying back there; more likely he would get away and ignite the big boom from the safe distance ... Still: it is hard to tell. I get no feeling for this character.
It is really hard to tell. On the Michael says he is done with Kimmet, on the another hand he feels responsable (at least to a certain degree) to the people arriving at Fort Irwin. In this situation, it depends on who is on the sat phone and if the remaining troops at Fort Irwin are able to deal with the zombies. But hell yeah, we will go back to LA, that is for sure.
However, if Kimmet orders the evacuation of Fort Irwin, where will everyone go? The colony? I doubt that it is able to support such a large group of new arrivals. I still do not get it why so many people think that the colony is a safe haven.
I dunno. I think Bricks could have told Lizzie. He seemed to cave to her pretty easily. I guess we will find out shortly. But I think the twist of either the finale or next season will be Scratch joining up with the main group. Maybe she is on her death bed and tells all or legitimately joins the group.
Hey, anyone else wonder what happened to the body of Inkling #2? Seems like it would be too dangerous to just toss into the trash. I wonder if it will play a roll later in the story. Does Tanya get to the brain?
Truth be told, I was just being an ass....the time between episodes can drive a man to insanity, so as to keep the forum pumping, I threw some randomness into the void, and the forum did not disappoint...
Maybe this belongs in the theories thread... but I think we are going to find a natural resistance exampled by Saul & his mom. Remember the vapors at ground zero? and the fact that the Army (what's left of it) kept waiting for her to turn... but obviously she hasn't. We'll see if they don't come across more...
The "natural resistance" has one flaw ... Do the survivors have the means to "engineer" something to either protect the remaining survivors or to deploy as biological weapon against 'em zeehs? If neither is the case, what would be the point in having to zeeh-resistance humans?
Laboratories in Boulder are no more. Would the medical facility in Irwin be sufficient for such a task? I have some doubts. And the 'hospital' in The Colony? I doubt it. Maybe the hopsital in L.A. would be the place to go for ... But it is held by the zeehs as far as we know ...
In terms of survival of the human race... you don't need a lab. You just need to make babies. And protect them for about 10 years or so. Easy. :)
I see your point though. It depends on the nature of the resistence. If it is as easy as injesting local honey, or if it requires major biological engineering.
I think the details of the x-rays and/or brain scans of #2 will come into play at some point. Kimmet letting Tanya out of her cage is almost hinting at something may happen where Michael needs Tanya to get out of Irwin and tag along to LA like someone mentioned earlier. And also the details of the autopsy we already know doesn't seem too substantial, where as X-rays or brain scans should hold much more value and maybe even a twist...
Do you think Tanya used the same antibiotics on others (ex. the slow turner) that she used on Saul and herself? I know she said that there wasn't a plentiful supply, but she probably tried them once or twice on others that eventually turned.
Hopefully Tanya being out will help explore this... I can see the bread crumbs do seem to be pointing to the Meds... I imagine she was experimenting with doses, combo's etc. so it is a definate possibility she used the antibiotics on others... but I imagine she wouldn't repeat with her son the exact process she used with others that ended up turning.
