The Marine Corps Rifleman's Creed isn't just for Marines, many soldiers take it that seriously too. Not saying that
Angel was that hardcore but "My Rifle" is still a very personal thing.
So personal that even in video games, I had a hard time of it, dropping my rifle and picking up another weapon with more ammo. Wasn't even consciously doing it either. Until I started getting owned and realized what I was doing.
There is also the factor of zeroing the weapon. All the other rifles were either Mechanical Zeroed or zeroed to someone else. Sure, in theory, you can take your zero numbers and apply them to a new weapon, but it doesn't always work that way. My own zero has varied over time from rifle to rifle. Especially when I switched from shooting right to left handed. (6 Up & Center)
To properly zero a new/different rifle, or your own after significant repairs, you have to go to a known distance range with zero targets. There was plenty of time for this once
the tower was secured, but initially, not so much.
