K, I'm working with sticky pistons to do it, very complicated, will take time. Or find someone smarter. Stopping on different floors might not be an option to start with.

could you put a break at each floor and start a new elevator section? kind of like this

I'm a little worried about space.

every ele I've seen requires a ton of space.

Not necessarily.... let's just get everything else right first then we'll do elevators but remember. We probably wont be using them due to them not using them in the story.

they do use them once, just before the power went out, when they were getting the geny to the top.

Yeah, as soon as I edited that I debated about editing it again and adding "for daily usage." Because it's minecraft we might add a redstone pulse generator and some redstone to power the lights and also "Bill or whoever stole the stuff" used the elevator to hide it.

Hit a stumbling block yesterday, should have anticipated this earlier, sticky pistons are only sticky when power is applied or taken away. Got a fix. Won't be able to create it without a LOT of slime.
