Fracking is still being presented as a viable option because it’s an easier sell to the average person. If you tell a person that they can keep doing more or less what they are doing now with little change they are going to be easier to convince then telling them you have to change your whole infrastructure ASAP. A company that used to produce and manufacture crude into various grades can modify their equipment (granted it is still a million dollar venture) to accept gas. That is not the case with wind or solar.

The companies that are trying to sell fracking to the municipalities are not going to the large or affluent cities because they know they will get more pushback. They are going to the towns that are scrapping, have lost the majority of their industry and need another income source. This has been the case in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania in recent years and it still surprises me how it is considered a “hot button issue.”

When the companies go in they want to “lease” farmers land so they can get access to the shale below and you can continue growing your crops and we send you a check. Everyone wins right? Except when something goes inevitable goes wrong and suddenly, you can’t water your crops because your ground water has high levels of chemicals in it or your friendly neighborhood corporation fractured the bedrock in your area and now you have unstable bedrock below your house. Oh and BTW you leased out use your land so you can’t go after Frack company for losses.
