DIY weapons

I blogged yesterday, about DIY weapons, and thought I’d post it here as well as it’s an interesting one I think, the original post is HERE and replies are welcome there, or here.

OK, here’s a scenario: It’s Z-Day. You are in you home and need to get from there to a designated safe shelter which is 1 mile away. Between you and the shelter there are a lot of Zombies, traditional non-runners, shufflers if you like, but you can get through them with the help of a weapon. You have no guns or access to guns. What weapon would you be able to fashion from items within your home?

I had a good look around and was quite disappointed with my options. I could do something with a chair leg and some kitchen knives maybe, or a Fender Telecaster, but the neck would break before I got to my destination I think. I have a hatchet in the garage, and a metal baseball bat, but the garage is not attached to the house and therefore not part of the scenario. I do have a hammer, so in the one hand I would have to carry that, and in the other a chair leg. The chair leg would be to keep the Zombie a chair legs length away and the hammer to smash their bloody brains in. It’s the best I can do, I reckon my chances of survival would be 50/50 at best. If there were a hug of Zombies then I’d be done for, 1 or 2 at a time and I could probably get away with it.

How prepared are you? If the alarm went off now and you had 10 minutes to get your weapons before setting off for the safe site, what could you fashion only from what is immediately to hand to protect yourself?

Corn knife....think machete but a thinner width wise..thicker material wise..i have one at the house and one at the shop...odds and ends otherwise at the house...a full workshop at the shop..i can make just about anything out there...

Never seen a corn knife, I gooled it and the first results contained a picture of a bloody stump!

Have a few <5 pound weights. Plated kind so in my head they can do some damage if I put them between two knots on a extension cord and swing hard enough. Bat, knives, basic bag of tools. Some kind of cleaning acid. Various flammable stuff. 2 or 3 frozen 10-15 pound catfish.
