This has been on my mind for a good min and I've come to the conclusion that I don't care how this all really started. Do you?

One of the reasons why I started this line of thought is because once the event is explained, people will start looking for the loopholes, the inconsistancies or the trouble with the science so to speak.
In the end, almost 90 percent of our movies don't tell why, they just tell the journey.
I do want to know, but I have to agree with you Crowbar. As much as I want some damn answers, it would ruin the ride right now! It doesn't change the story of these people trying to survive, it only enhances it (for me, not them ;)). MAYBE... it would be cool if at the VERY end there were hints or clues as to exactly how it all began. OR... Once the series is finished, it might be cool to see some spin offs, or lost journals, concentrating more on the origins than the story of survival.
I'm assuming you're talking about 90% of zombie movies don't tell why. I'd say that most movies do indeed tell you why things happen and how because it's naturally what the mind wants to know when being told a story.
Personally, I want to know. People can look for loopholes all they want, I'm pretty certain we've only found one or two conflicts in the story and both were pretty minor (the one about the hummer hatch in the beginning, and there was another one I don't recall right now....) I believe if we were to be told how this happened, it wouldn't take away from the story, and I'm positive Kc and Company would be able to reveal it so we won't be able to find loopholes (and if there are loopholes, he's got a fanatic fanbase that will defend the loopholes) :p
Personally, I'm dying to know and unless it's a really, REALLY dumb reason (an overdone April's Fool joke that got way out of hand), I don't mind. I question and I nitpick, but that doesn't take anything away from the story for me. To me, We're Alive is happening in it's own universe where the reason, whatever it might turn out to be, will be plausible.
While it might be nice to know what caused the outbreak, I think that the story would make a major shift into figuring it out.
Perhaps over time if little bits and pieces of info get put into the story, though, it would satisfy those who are curious. Possibly, like Rock Daddy said, do something like a spin-off or release those bits later on or towards the end (if there is one).
but I do like the story as is right now.

ahem.. I do dig how a vast majority of the Zombie/Infected flicks leave us in the dark. We get to go along for the ride. Other times an explanation is simply Duex ex machina, ala time travel. eewwww! (can a grown man go "ewww??").
I kinda dig the idea of bread crumbs that lead to an ultimate answer, but it's left to us to figure it out.
I really like this idea. Alternate viewpoints or one-off story arcs that take 1-3 weeks but explore another viewpoint of the events. The possibilities are great! However, I imagine that by the end of the story, KC will be more than ready to move on to a different project. I'd can't wait to see (er, hear?) his storytelling put to work on other ideas.Quote:

Well I for one really don't think it was alien related thing but then again with chapter 23 that could be a possibility considering the arm! I do want to know especially with this much time investment. However he could still lead us in thinking we know how it started with info that is just the tip of the iceburg and throw in new information that could put us into weeks of speculation. Considering the attention to detail and realism put into the story line it will definately be something very plausible.

I think not knowing gives something to the story... Would you listen to everything again if you knew how it all began? Not knowing keeps some mystery and keeps us back for more, not too mention it keeps us coming here asking, WHY???
I have to agree with you there. That's why I put forth the "Bread Crumb" idea. Give us clues. I don't want it spelled out for me. Throw the crumbs and clues out there and make me listen to the whole damn series over and over again to try and put the puzzle together.Quote:

I kind of want to know. It would add lots to the story. If there's a specific place it started is there a cure in that area? Why was it created? A revenge story line where they kill all the raydon labs scientists(assuming that's where it was created) could be cool, if done right(and they seen to do everything right)
Well, I could be cool not knowing. We all know this is way out there in the spectrum of possibilities. So one runs the risk of taking away from the story as people nitpik. The story is more about how do a bunch of strangers pull together to contend with multiple threats to achieve the one goal of survival. But, as they get closer to the goal they will find most have a different definition of survival. Zombies are plot device. It could be a forest fire. An island of stability in the midsts of a riot. The arena in Katrina.
