I bet Scratch and Durai offered Gatekeeper some lofty position after the Colony's defeat so that he could take care of controlling the Colony inhabitants. He's too useful and cunning to just kill, but I also have a feeling that if this is the case, he's biding his time to strike at the Mallers so that he can gain full control.
