Listening some more and I go back to trying to figure out CJ's motivation for what she is doing. CJ wants one main thing: her survival. She believes that the only way to ensure that is to put the smartest, best person in charge: Her!
I'm not saying CJ's not smart and not a total badass at times. But her singleminded focus has a weakness. She is blind to her weaknesses and vulnerabilities. The banishment of Saul & Victor shows a weakness to her own emotions. As logical and calculating as she is, her emotions overwhelm that and she makes a critical judgement in error.
She continues to be blind to how this will come back to bite her. Getting rid of Saul & Victor was meant to protect her from betrayal. Her continued lies and manipulation will cause some significant group of people to turn on her or, at the least, abandon her and leave her very vulnerable.
Right now, all the characters at the Colony have a common cause - get the place rebuilt so they can have a "safe" life. Michael bucks that system a bit because he knows the danger in being a big, stationary target. CJ brings him in by saying he can go out and play soldier/investigator. She appeases him and I'm expecting that she'll either ditch him or just renege on the offer. Her quote about "getting your fill of Saul" makes me think that Michael might not be welcome in the Colony for long.
CJ specifically calls out how valuable Tanya is. She also mentions splitting up Saul and Tanya. I see it as perhaps a bit of insurance on CJ's part to keep Saul in line. At least that's her intent....
I keep coming back to a CJ quote in 37-3, "What good is a wall if you can't get out. It becomes a prison." Is this CJ's flashback to the invasion of Dunbar? Is it a foreshadowing of people "locked in" at the Colony even when they want to leave? Is it both?
I can't wait to see how all this plays out beyond the walls of the Colony. Hopefully soon...
Bonus: Michael's quote when bargaining for Tanya's research - "CJ, there's just so much we don't know. If we find some weakness, or some way of turning them back..." Is that the first time the concept of turning zombies back or curing them has come up? Hmm.....
