Runners, draggers and the "Oh $#!T" factor...

I was thinking about this today O_o and wanted to get other people's opinions.
Traditional shuffling, stumbling zombies vs. the fast, running kind.

The Shufflers :zombie:- Traditional, slow, endlessly moving, never stopping, typical dead walkers. Able to make your sphincter clench or your bowels release (depending on your fight-or-flight reflex) in their own right. These maggot-eaters may start out fast (for about a week or so), but muscle tissue, with constant use (sans any rest) breaks down at an accelerated rate. This is what happens when you work out for an extended period of time (basically, muscle fatigue). I think this type makes more sense in the long term, due to the fact that zombies (hopefully!) wouldn't possess the ability to heal damaged tissue. Hence, their movements would become slower and slower as their bodies deteriorate. They'd develop the classic dragging walk and stiff, semi-responsive limbs. Their eyes would look white (due to lack of moisture and /or lubrication from not blinking) because the corneas would be dry and abraded (which would also slow their offensive abilities) and they wouldn't be able to see very well after a few weeks. Same thing with their ability to hear (ear canals packed with dried gore, debris or possibly insect larva) or smell (they don't need to breathe, their sinuses would be swollen rotted and unable to acquire the scent of anything). As long as you kept your wits, you should be able to make it to safety, eventually. Not saying it would be fun or pleasant, but you should be able to stay out of their way and survive with the proper supplies and weaponry.

The Runners :mad:- MUCH more frightening. Fast moving, tireless, feral and extremely dangerous singly or in packs. More than enough to send the phrase "Holy $#lT!" through your mind or from your lips, as they lope around the corner and start sprinting in your direction. I can see many of these being around at the beginning of an outbreak, but (again, hopefully!) they shouldn't be around for long as their muscles break down. These puss sacks could be the bipedal equivalent of alligators, with opposable thumbs. Possibly possessing the ability to (somewhat) reason, open doors, use primitive bludgeons, implement plans and lay traps. They'd move, half-crouched until they began to run after prey and would possess a predatory drive that their slower cousins wouldn't be able to match. Eventually, their sensory organs would decompose, but until that happened, these vicious $#its would need to be neutralized singly (from a distance if you could) and avoided in packs at all cost.

Even one of EITHER type of zombie is too many. But let's have your thoughts on which one's you think are more possible and which would frighten you more!
