Howdy fellow survivors! This is my first true blog post on here. I'm sure that right now you probably have lots of questions like, "What is this?" and "Who are you?" and "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?" (FYI, it's around 20-25 mph.) For starters, I am a We're Alive fan who bugged Kc with various things I could do to help out with the series. When I stumbled onto here, naturally I was smitten! So now I help out with the forums and the wiki and whatnot.

I've been a fan since only 2016 (late to the party sadly, I was not the early bird with the worm.) I first got into the series when my dad used to play it in our house and then later introduced me to it. Since then I've been doing lots with the series. I've listening to The Story of Survival at least a dozen or so times, and I'm a whiz at trivia (for the most part :D.) I've always wanted to give back to this amazing community but never really had a chance because of my "late birdedness". By the time I got here the forums had kinda went quiet. :(

Now enough about me. What's this? Why does my blog have such an uncreative name? I follow in the footsteps of giants like "The Voodoo Lounge", and "DemetriusH's Tower" is the best I can come up with? Well, I promise the blog itself won't be as uncreative as the name might give away. This is my personal section of the forums where I can share how my life is going in terms of everything We're Alive. That includes theories, thoughts, reflections, and general work I've been doing for We're Alive. If I've done something new on the Wiki or I have a super duper uber cool theory, this is the place that all will be told. I will do my best to mix in some humor too (expect many puns to come ;) )

I will post a new blog post soon talking about my thoughts on the series so far. This is only meant to be an introductory post that I can refer back to if need be or whatever. Good luck out there, and stay alive! :)

A story of survival
Ch.1 part 1 of 3
"As I recall the months leading up to when this all happened weren’t much to remember. My unit returned home earlier that year from our tour in Iraq. I had spent 365 on ground working as military Intelligence; our group came up with those playing cards you saw on the news. The 52 most wanted. I was a hard charge P.F.C. back then, but that was the first tour. After the third I was the tired and depressed Sergeant. Nothing scared me back then, I did not fear death or what might be there on the other side if today was my last day .that was then, and this is now. I Wright this not really for anyone to read, but for my own sanity maybe if I go ever it from the beginning it might make more sense to me. And then again maybe not”
“I was twenty seven at the time and in my fourth year in college. I started my freshman year in two thousand and one almost eight years ago now. I remember the date as if it was burned into my head. May 8th 2009”
I was walking down a brick path to my first class of the morning. When a perky ginger haired girl waved to me from across the courtyard. She was wearing a light purple shirt and a pair of jeans that seemed a just a little too tight. And as she jogs to catch up to me she smiled. “Hey Michael, where you going?” and with a shrug I reply “uh, class“
She moves and walks in step with me “Oh, did you study for the quiz today?” I chuckle “No, not really.” she laughs and bumps me with her elbow. “Oh, well neither did I.” I smile at that and look at my watch speeding up my pace a little. “Yeah, well, alright.” She then gives me a hopeful look “Hey are you going to the Omega's party this weekend? It's going to be so awesome, I thought you might want to go with-“but I interrupt her “Nope, don't want to. Thanks though.” I see her face fall at that “Why not?” and I sigh I didn’t like college parties that much. “Is it a better response to say, oh OK, well maybe another time?” She frowns and crosses her arms “Geese, you don't have to be such a jerk about it.” And I shrug “I was direct, how is that being a jerk?”
By this time we had reached the class room just before we were late. As I entered I heard the professor drone “Once you are done, um, go ahead and put your papers up here and you guys will be free to go.” I sat down in my seat the stacks of paper sitting I front of me.
And that’s when we hear it at first I thought that someone was making a growling noise but then I felt the rumble, it was an explosion. “What the hell?” I say getting up from my chair. The girl from before walked up to the window and looked out “Did you hear that?” she said
The teacher lets out a sigh and adjusts his glasses “It's probably just the construction going on next door, now please take your seat” I start packing my things and then look up at him “That's not construction”


please tell me if its good i have more written but i want to get feedback to see if this style is good first so here is a section of chapter one

It seems that there is a technique to walking in snow that I didn't master till we had to leave. The phrase "Pick em up and put them down" is forever branded into my soul along with every sticker bush in the entire state of Illinois which found its way into my flesh.

I decided to try and be helpful and put my new hatchet to use. I had watched Chris chop half way through a larger dead fall log then kick it to break the log the rest of the way. Well... I efficiently chopped then I kicked the log and got flipped ass over tea pot into the mud and snow on my ass. I have a really awesome set of bruises from that. Oddly neither of us remembered what we said but we both remembered we were surrealistically calm. I did manage to break the log with that kick though it did kick my ass in return.

We managed a pile of good pieces of wood and we sat again to rest. Chris told me that real survival was exactly what we'd been doing. Working together as best we could to gather the basics of existence, shelter, warmth (fire), food, water and resting often to conserve energy. (his words were better then mine and that was how he explained it)

The woods in Illinois are beautiful at night or at day. Its an amazing place to explore. I had wanted more pictures and Chris being the good man and good friend was happy to help me in this as he'd grown up in this woods and knew every inch of it and helped me find the best spots for "artistic" pictures. (will post pictures in the end)

Moral of this story: Survival isn't easy but its easier when you've got friends with you who have mad skills.

As you can see, the quest for fire was difficult. Even for someone with experience like Chris. The cold weather, snow covered ground and wet materials all added up to a frustrating endeavor. Two cans of bug spray as our accelerant

We along with anyone else that wanted to join us take an trip to the woods and ... survive.

This sounds simple right? The planning stages of the trip were extensive and took us three months. We invited multiple people but in the end is was him and I and his dog, Titus.

The day started out with a clear plan. Leave at the ass crack of dawn. Drive to the location. Hike with heavy packs and make our way in the dark in to the depths of a frozen Illinois woods. Has anyone watched the news about the snow fall this year in Illinois? You see where I'm going with this.

So we set out from the truck in the dark moving into the woods only having single head lamps to guide our way. Did I mention I'm not the best at night? I fell the first time as we entered the woods my backpack being off balance caused me to fall sideways in knee deep snow. This is where I also discovered my god damned nemesis...... STICKER BUSH! Chris being a very good teacher with more patience then I have allowed me to figure out how to get up by myself. He waited a ways off until I gained my footing.

We walked what seemed like hours. Chris tells me as I type this it was only fifteen to twenty minutes tops from the road to the camp site. I'm suspicious he's only saying this to spare my ego from taking so long to walk what was less then half a mile.
We went up hill. We went down hill. I fell and the sticker bushes took the opportunity to assault me violently. My knit hat was taken as a trophy in the predawn by the god damn sticker bushes and they nearly got my mittens. I fell two more times. The last time I fell so badly I was pinned by my backpack like an upside down turtle. Chris was gallant and came to my rescue helping get the pack off so I could get to my feet then came the disaster of trying to get a forty pound backpack back on. Chris had demonstrated multiple times how to put on a backpack from a front position. He flips it backwards over his head rests it on his shoulders and fastens the straps before sliding it into the correct position on his back.
I've learned that watching is not the same as doing. What Chris can do with a backpack twice the weight of mine looks easy but its not. He had to assist me at this point to get the backpack on me. I need to practice that maneuver and lift weights.... a lot of weights.

Once I was on my feet again and my cumbersome pack again securely on my back again, we stepped off again. Once again, for what felt like hours. We reached the camp site. The camp site that Chris selected was at the base of a finger, in a sticker bush and dead fall grove. This gave us a good position to build our shelters, facing each other. It also gave us good concealment from any possible unaware passerby. As a side note, our position would have been harder to locate, if I had chosen a tarp that was a natural color rather than blue. I like blue though and blue is pretty. I type this and grin. He rolled his eyes again at me.

Now that we were at our camp site, we dropped packs and began the long process of clearing brush and snow. FYI, this snow had large chunks of ice in it making it difficult for me to clear my space. Chris on the other hand, had no problem clearing his site. Once again, Chris made this look easier than it actually was. Chris had cleared his site and the fire pit site before I had even cleared four feet of snow.

Shelters need a few things to be considered suitable. All those factors were not present in my shelter. Chris allowed me to build mine in any fashion I chose. Giving me only enough advice to allow me to be creative. From the photos, you can see who obviously put a little more thought in the construction of their shelter.

Before I knew it, it was pushing 10am in the morning and Chris took off to find some evergreen trees.

We were asked along with nine hundred other idiots to open the first brand new hospital in the state of Oregon in forty-five years.

Ten months later here I am. Our new hospital is two months shy of its first birthday and growing better and bigger everyday. I'm proud to have been a part of something so amazing. Opening a hospital is a one in a life time opportunity for a nurse. I'm glad to have done it but I never want to do it again. :) It's bloody hard ugly painful work.

Neat thing though about this hospital I think if the biters were ever to rise up my hospital would be worth the effort to reclaim. Solar powered with water reclamation and utterly state of the art... Yes yes it would be worthy of the fight.

Also, he can take us on the BB Tour Thursday morning no problem. then, it's on to Roswell, NM:

5:30-7:30: Buy alien shit in Roswell, etc.
7:30-10:30: Travel to Albuquerque, crash at Adrian's for the night

From there, my first idea was to pick up listeners along my way out to California. the more I thought about that one though, the more I realized that perhaps it would be better to try and help get the east coasters over to the west. about a week ago, litmaster gave me the perfect opportunity to put this plan into action. I honestly never would have imagined him becoming such a integral part of this idea. in fact, ill say that much of this would not be possible had he not become involved. so big thank you to him, from me.

going forward from here, when I feel its needed I will be making casual blog posts with the "state of the convoy" as a theme. basically, the information we need to share amongst those wanting to go west with us can get lost in the mire of a typical thread. as of this typing the W/A finale convoy thread is at sixteen pages. digging for info can be a bit cumbersome with that much to read. so ill try to put pertinent info here when I can.

Tuesday july 15ththis is the date everyone needs to schedule arrival in Illinois, be that by plane, train, automobile, sparrowhawk, whatever the case. we need to leave from my place about seven am wedsday morning. so honestly the sooner you can get here Tuesday, the better.
tues, cont. ill be the first to tell everyone, my duplex is small. once we all arrive at my place, we will most likely do some shopping to fill the coolers for the trip. then, grill out in my backyard, (possibly bring a couple aged ales up from my "cellar"), and get a good nights sleep to leave the next morning. now, I said earlier, my place is "small"... I live in a split level duplex at roughly 1200 square feet. I only have two beds. most likely the first night will be camping in my living room. that's a bonding experience most don't experience as an adult. in truth, the idea of it makes me think of grade school days. fun stuff.

sunday july 20th cont. after the studio tour, we will be high-tailing it out of L.A.. this is the part of the trip that gets tricky. the drive back to Illinois is about twenty-six hours. putting us back sometime in the evening on Monday the 21st. making flying out of Illinois either red eyes Monday, or sometime Tuesday. for some, this may not work. personally I completey understand time constraints, my life revolves around that sort of thing it seems. so if need be, anyone who wants to leave the convoy in L.A and fly back home is more than welcome to. it will be "tricky" but we could make it back to Illinois even if it ends up being just myself, litmaster, and tony.

that's all the logistical details I can think of at the moment. now perhaps we should knock out a few questions some may have.

"what airport am I flying into?"

here we have two "possible" options. the first being lambert airport in st. Louis, mo.

the second, while closer to my place, receives less flights than lambert. but may be a viable option. midamerica airport, Mascoutah, il

either of these will work for me. really it all depends on what airport you find the best deals through. as I said, lambert will be the most likely to have flights incoming. but midamerica is a smaller airport, therefore you may find better deals flying into there instead. litmaster is flying in a few days.. (or weeks!) early so if need be we can have two "shuttles" going for picking people up.

"what do I need to bring?"

well, yourself...obviously! bringing along the usual items for a longer trip is a given. (clothes, toiletries, PHONE CHARGER!) etc are all the givens for a trip like this. as we have said, the first three nights (one at my place, two on the road) we will be camping. so bringing your own sleeping bag is a very good idea. all of the other camping equipment, tents, blowtorches, flashlights for scary stories will be provided. then of course, theres money....

"how much is a trip like this gonna cost me??"
honestly, this all depends on how frugal a person you are. right now a quick breakdown of my projected expenses goes like this.
gas=200-250 per person.
hotel stay in L.A for two nights=300 per (that's a very rough estimation). food expenses=200 per (figuring high to be safe)
misc expenses(group cost for campsites, getting into the finale, etc)=200
"on vacation and having the time of your life" expenses= priceless
right now I believe a very safe number to put in your head is arrive in Illinois with 1500 and your very safe.

"I want to help out, but I don't think i'll be able to make the trip. what can I do?"

we are open to the idea of others being our "at home tech-people". the hope is that on this trip we can continually update from the road and keep the excitement for the finale building to a fever pitch as we make our way out there. if you want to help out in that way, go here;

to be certain, I'm doing this entire thing for the forum. while I honestly love the show, the forum is what has gotten me through the day for the better part of the last three years. I truly enjoy my time with each and every one of you that ive grown to know and care about over the years. litmaster has always been a friend online, but just within the last week of talking everyday in real life, I feel I can call him a true friend whos much more than his online persona. that's something that would not happen without this place. if any of you need anything, questions about the trip, more info on the camping plans, just someone to bullshit with for ten minutes while you wait for your bus to arrive. shoot myself or litmaster a pm on here, or find me on the twitter

Here we have arrived, another full revolution around this great fusion reactor of a life-giver we call Sol. January 21st, the day when Kc threw down the chains of oppression called Ye olde forum of Olde and evolved to the vBulletin ways.

Yearly news:

Some people who were once engaged are now married! The forum has been upgraded, again, and the staff roster has been added to.

However, there is always a bitter ground in the sweet cup'o'joe: some friends faded away and the story is coming to its eventual close.
