[COLOR=#add8e6]i just got back from the movies, and i couldn't wait to tell you guys all about, Act of Valor.

the first thing you need to know is that this movie is all about respect. the seals wouldn't even be a part of it unless the names of all the seals who have fallen since combat operations began in the middle east were listed at the end. this movie sheds a lot of light on what those guys do, how they do it, and the risks they take. the second thing you need to know, is that this movie is freakin awesome.

so, i'll start us off with the plot (no spoilers): a CIA agent stumbles across a plot to set off suicide bombs in america and is kidnapped. the seals go in to get her and this sets off a globe trotting adventure to stop evil. the beginning of the movie will shock and horrify you, but it sets the stage very well and tells you just what kind of "people" our boys meet in the line of duty. the plot is fictional, but each stage of the movie, from south america, to mexico is based on real operations carried out by seals. the writers pulled several declassified ops, and then wove a story to connect these unrelated missions. they did a really good job too. it kind of reminded me of call of duty, if call of duty met the show "the unit" and the operation flashpoint series. there was a grand story line, with real interactions on a personal level, and a level of realism that i don't think has ever been seen in a movie before.

the seals are not actors, and it certainly shows in all aspects of their performance. don't flip out on me, keep reading. first the bad: unfortunately some of the lines they delivered felt a little forced at times, but that isn't really an issue when you consider that this is the first time (as far as i know) that they have done acting. for their first time, they did a fantastic job. there were periods where they weren't delivering lines but actually interacting with each other (the moments before the second jump) and you can feel a completely different vibe from when they are delivering lines to progress the story. these guys work together, they live and die together, the fight and bleed, they are a brotherhood of the utmost unity. the roles they portray in the movie, are their jobs. you can definitely tell that they are not actors, they are professionals. everything they do, they do for real. for them it's just another day at the office, and it shows, they do things no actor could do, they show a level of skill and weapons handling and professionalism that simply cannot be faked. it's enough to send chills down your spine. from the live fire scenes (that's right, real bullets. makes a big difference in how you watch the movie) to them clearing buildings, to how they deal with their wounded, to running gun battles, you can see them go from acting to working. it's like an extension of their wills, and it is incredible.

the effects are also top notch. again, real bullets. but beyond that, actually getting to film a US nuclear sub is a big honor. the up close, the helmet cams, it all comes together to put you smack in the middle of the action. i had to check my shoes a few times cause it felt like i was in their boots. but it is also a very sobering movie. you cheer as they make short work of all their adversaries, but you feel every blow the take. it's a very emotional ending. i don't think there was a dry eye in the place.

well, i will leave the rest to some speculation. i've told you everything you really need to know except for my final verdict. i have never seen a movie like this before. this movie is destined to be one of my all time favorites, and probably best of the year, 10/10.
