I guess that Kc - a big Harry Potter fan - is going to reveal that Scratch actually survived due to the fact that Burt put her into a vanishing cabinet instead of a simple coffin before burying her under tons of concrete.

Scratch lives.

Ok, guys.

On the facebooks as well as on the home-website we have a) the cover for the first tale AND b) the title for it ... LOCKDOWN!

Time for some prediction? Let's get crazy just like we did in ol' times ...

I see bars, I see a guy behind them. And I wonder if the first tale will evolve around the Twin Tower prison or some other location? Will we start right before the zombocalypse, or hours or even days after it has started ... ?
Who will be the main character? Will we see ties to the original story, or will it be something totally independent?

What's your call on it ... ?

Best wishes!
Liam

Well, let's see... extended backstory, a prison, a lockdown, maybe a riot, an evil mastermind and possibly some "little one"? Hm...

Has there been enough Scratch in the story, yet? Most certainly not, I suppose.

LiamKerrington

Ok.

I raised some questions, and here is my take:

There are two options, if LOCKDOWN connects with what we already know. Either we visit Eastern Bay, or we will enter The Twin Tower prison. In the first case we might learn about Scratch breaking into EB in order to rescue Latch. And while she does this, we encounter Durai, Bricks, Tardust and other guys, and from then on we will learn about their first days and weeks in the hell-hole L.A. has become. In the latter case we might get to know about the dark paths the prisoners of the Twin Towers are walking down when Ink or ther Smart Ones appear and start experimenting with the bodies of the prisoners.
But maybe Kc wants to tell a totally independent story. Then we might learn kind of a generic story of survivors struggling with their unprecented freedom in a world where freedom only means to fight for your own survival, where each and everyone is only close to him- or herself.
In any case: the story will be dark, brutal and very interesting ...

I wonder the most if LOCKDOWN's gonna be a story starting right in the middle of the zombocalypse, or if it will beginn like the very first chapter of WA - at the very beginning ...

Best wishes!
Liam

I'm guessing there might be a little something about being trapped during the outbreak, fighting to keep the zombies at bay...

Unit
Feb 12th, 2015, 05:00 PM
I am thinking it will be the evolution of the jail. Originally a place of confinement by way of lockdown. Then the outbreak happens and it becomes a sanctuary for the craziness outside but must stay locked down to remain safe. Then a cameo by ink who finds it and works to turn it into his test lab.

CPHJackal
Feb 13th, 2015, 06:36 AM
What if its a complete character piece, with the inmates locked in and the last two decent moral guards feeding them to keep them alive, until Ink finds them? They aren't let out, they stay in the cells the whole time.

Moar Scraaaaaaaatch !!!! :)

So looking forward to this !!!! And even the mention of a possibility of a new series? Mind = Blown.

Well... I did get a little inside information on this last summer when we went to LA, so I'll refrain from commenting until the public information on this topic outruns my personal knowledge (which isn't much, to be honest).

Naw, not too many. I'm trying to steer clear of some, but there are others that are so ingrained in part of the penal system they can't be separated. After visiting a jail, I found out what's true and what's not.

Yes, it is the same with me. Before we will get TOWA, I will have got into debt for the first time in my life. Building a house is quite expensive these days. However, the good part is that I will be *quite* motivated for probably the next seventeen years or so in order to fulfill my obligations. So, moving and work as well for me, too, plus the additional amortization fun.

But as I will have my private tower sooner than later - I am prepared for z-day. :nik:

Hi again, some partial off-topic news: as some of you know, I will start building a house in April (unofficial project title: "Dunbar II"). And I have to procure lots of insurances along the way. Yeay, it is a German thing to have a stockpile of insurances - it tends to make us happy and besides gives us a multitude of reasons to complain about our miserable insurance thralldom.

However, today marked the day I was asked if I would like to sign an insurance against terrorist attacks.Wow. Crazy, hmm? I was tempted - at least for a couple of seconds - to ask for a zombie apocalypse insurance instead. :) Terrorists? Seriously? Hang on, Mr Extremist, please do not do anything stupid, I have to talk to my insurance agent first.

Fun fact two: my building construction site manager sounds like Burt, I guess that is a bonus.

Me, too - kind of. 5 hours of audio-drama - or how long the final cut will be. I don't see it coming in one huge piece, but instead in a series of small ones. But I am not certain, if Kc's gonna split it into 20-minute-episodes like he used to with WA. Time will tell, and Kc will make it available the way he sees fit. So, the big question - in my opinion, is whether the "good" guys (those who we what to survive) will be the guards, those who were wrongfully convicted or those reckless felons? It is likely to be a mix, is it not?

I'm breaking some rules here, and trying new things in the format, so don't be too surprised if you see it either A, all as one piece, or B, three long chunks.

Breaking something like this into 20 minute chunks becomes more of a burden and hinderance than an opportunity. This story is a bit more intimate in the pacing and setup and gives the story a bit more time to breathe rather than have everything fast paced.

I'm still working out the details of how it'll be released, but like always story comes first. The one thing you need to be aware of is, it will be different than what you've come to expect from WA.

The one thing you need to be aware of is, it will be different than what you've come to expect from WA.

Some damn good work from him, have to admit.

But, on here he's called it TFWA, and on Facebook he called it TOWA....

WHICH ONE IS IT, I NEED TO KNOW :britt:

YOU MEAN IT'S GOING TO SUCK?!?? :britt:

It's a possibility that some people won't like it, but that goes with everything.

Mini update, draft 2 is 107 pages in of the now 300. These things usually get longer rather than shorter, at least my writing does.

There was also one scene added in near the end. Do you have any idea what that is, no... but it's pretty cool. It was something I wanted to put in but struggled to find a place but finally found it. I hope it still works once I get into the 2nd draft.

I wonder if you'll get more flack from people given that this will be a purchased product rather than free. You know, us assholes like to feel like we're getting our $$$ worth... :nik:

Do you find that your drafts follow the general '1 minute per page' standard, or is that an old, OTR bullshit standard?

If you ever sold WA as a television series and were commissioned as lead writer, would you have trouble re-formatting the show to fit the more rigid tv specs (for ads, etc)?

Also, in the original WA, you made some effort to create mini-arcs within the seasons and even within each episode, so as to carry forward momentum in the series. Are you thinking of TFWA as more of a mini-series with a similar approach to arcs, or rather as one long movie with one big arc? Does this thinking affect how you want to split up the 5 hours, if at all?

Hmmm... cool. I'm wondering whether the additional information we will get from the jail will do more to answer some lingering questions for us, or raise more questions than answers... O_o

You mean you were using "uber" BEFORE 'before it was cool'? That's Uber-hipster. Just kidding, my homeboy from another Heimat. Plus 20 Cool Points. It's great having the gang get back together, guys.

Just thought of something, at (+/-) 5 hours of audio, 'Lockdown' is gonna have quite a bit of dialog. I was thinking that is would be a behemoth-making story, but I imagined that being filled with mostly growls and howls. Maybe we'll find out about the inmates being holed up in the (cafeteria?).

Okay, Kc... another question about 'Lockdown'...

One of the things that set WA apart from the pack was the fact that it was a strong, character-driven show. Of course, you also had the luxury of developing some of those characters through four full seasons of content, and we got to see them change quite a bit.

I imagine with 'Lockdown' being 'only' 5 hours running time, you won't have much time for dynamics (i.e., character change)... but do you think that will be sufficient time to develop some characters what we care about as an audience? Has the relative lack of time caused issues with your writing?

The only reason why you may wish to wach this flick is in order to spectate overly sexualized young hot women ... And yet there are more than enough other movies doing this much better than "Zombeavers" ... And if you intent to waste your time, watch something else anyway or procrastinate with kitten-pictures on the world wide webszZ.

These are good question. 5 hours for Lockdown roughly equals half a season in WA. But in WA we often have several story-archs or plotlines being told simultaneously. Also we had many characters in WA. If Lockdown focuses on just one main plot and has only a handful of main characters telling their story, then I would not be surprised to see a similarly deep story and structure as what we have with the WA origins ...

Cheers!

Na, the one thing that came to my mind besides the "Meet the Feebles"-pastiche-ness of this flick was simply: wow, there must have been marketing geniuses involved. And I wholeheartedly salute this obvious uber-PowerPoint(tm)-presentation (maybe including large amounts of white powder) which helped to get the movie financed.

This earned my respect.

I think you'll be surprised what I can do in that amount of time. It's more than enough time to establish characters, and become familiar with them. I'm writing to content, not time (as per usual), and the 5 hours was just how long the story lasted. In many ways I don't have to re-establish so much of what is already going on, and it's a far smaller cast, and mostly an A storyline to focus on.

Yup! I was actually worried about it not being long enough, but it just happened to run where I wanted it to. I'm still adding and cutting lines, so we go longer and shorter at times; but as always Story is King.

Hey Kc....regarding "Lockdown":

1. Will this 5-6 hour production be broken up into, say, 30 min episodes and released over a series of weeks? Or all in one gulp?

2. Given your experience from the WA series, do you have any new recording techniques that you might employ for "Lockdown" that you didn't employ in 'We're Alive'?

1. Nope. It'll be more like three 1.5-2 hour segments. We've talked about doing a three-night event to stream it online as a premiere. Still a lot up in the air as we finalize kickstarter stuff.

2. Shout-mics and crouch mics. There will be a station set up where there will be two mics at different gain levels so we don't miss a performance to tearing. The Crouch mic will be set up very low to the ground so the actors can actually record on the floor. We did it for one of Saul's scenes in Chapter 48, but it'll be more permanent while we record.

There's a lot of other stuff that's new as well, but it's more involved with the story format like longer scenes and such. There's definitely some elements of new format experimentation too that I won't talk about here.
