here is a pet peeve of mine.
when people say, " I have forgotten more about this (job) than I care to remember."
they think this is a good thing and they take pride in that. I don't. to me it says that they and their knowledge are unreliable.
any knowledge that is lost is bad, especially about your job.

I don't know if that has anything to do with lack of pride. I think it's a statement of how long someone has been doing something, and more often than not, it's in reference to shitty aspects of the job.

Its more likely not a factual statement either , just a sentiment reflecting what feels like being at the same job for too long is like...hopefully, otherwise it just might be brain damage, lol.

if a carpenter forgot how to hammer a nail would you want him to build you a house?

Yeah, but there's context surrounding it. More often than not it is in regards to an individual that is relatively new to something:

"I've forgotten more about making movies that you know."

I mean, I don't know very many people who are still actively doing a job that have told me they've forgotten how to do part of that job.

it could also reference a fast paced environment where the things that they have "forgotten" are part of a process that is now obsolete and no longer required.

I was hoping this was a thread of someone introducing a pet that they called Peeve.

You know what, let him have his pet peeve Osiris. It could be worse.
Mine has to be people telling me to like them on Facebook, subscribe to there youtube videos, etc etc.
The harder you push me to do it the less likely I am to even bother with your videos.
Because I'm childish like that and I don't like people telling me what to do.

My pet peeve is sayings in general for example:

-it is what it is... (really? you mean you just are going to accept the situation, NOT!)
-this to shall pass... (no shit, time goes forward as far as I can tell)
-roll with the punches... (honestly who is going to roll when they are being punched and not punch back?)

I prefer silence over a standardized phrase/saying. I very well could list a billion, but I was starting to get angry writing them.
