Hi there,

recently I visited a local roleplaying- and tabletop-game convention (Conventus Leonis in Brunswick, Germany). And there I joined a group of guys who played the tabletop-game of "Battletech" for the better part of an afternoon and evening - with simplified rules of the game in order to draw curious newbies to the game. For me it was kind of a time-travel, 'cause about 20 years ago I already played the game quite some time; but since then (mid nineties) up until now I haven't played this game anymore. And now the "viral agent" has struck, and the game does not leave me alone anymore. Actually I seriously consider getting some basic stuff in order to be prepared and to invite friends to game-sessions of "Battletech". Yeehaww!

Now I wonder: Are there any Battletech fans members of the WA-community? If so, how about sharing some thoughts and ideas about this game?

For those who might be interested or at least curious: Just check this youtbe-video, which gives you a good understanding of what "Battletech" is and how to play the game:

I owned the tabletop game, but never played it. I read a lot of the books in the 90's and early 00's. I have a huge spot in my heart for the Battletech universe. In fact, my handle, which also is a part of my Xbox gamertag is from Battletech. I really loved playing Mechcommander and its sequel on the PC, and thoroughly enjoyed MechAssault and its sequel on the Xbox.

They have a MechWarrior MMO now, but I haven't played that because I was out of country for a while.

Hi there,

yeah, the MechCommander game I tried, and I failed at it a lot. But I did not fail at the various MechWarrior games, which enjoyed me a lot.
Currently the Mechwarrior MMO is in the open beta testing, so it is free and open for all. I won't play it, 'cause my 'puter is kind of out-dated. And considering the graphics in the game I will kill my 'puter, which would be kind of bad, 'cause I don't have the money nor the will to invest into a new one. The times are over in which I changed my 'puter-set-upin order to be play new games. But when there is no way around a new 'puter, the MechWarrior MMO is one the few games I will try out, 'cause it looks amazing ... (Just check the official website: http://mwomercs.com/).

All the best!

Liam, I doubt that you will ever be able to play a game on a German "'puter" at all.

Since I am not a member of the IT branch, I call them toaster-things with screens the way I like it. So, the computer is just another 'puter for me ...

I last played this back in the 90s, I liked it an awful lot but haven't played in years. I do keep meaning to dig it out and play it again though.
