It's not REALLY collocation. Did you even read the definition? You're using sentence fragments again.

I'm backing things up to Camera Obscura. Hellbringer's lead.

For the LAST TIME:

col·lo·ca·tion
ˌkäləˈkāSHən/

Noun

The habitual juxtaposition of a particular word with another word or words with a frequency greater than chance.
A pair or group of words that are juxtaposed in such a way.

Photo + Album? Yes.
Random Band Name + Album? No.

Vlarken
Mar 26th, 2013, 07:13 PM
Hmm, I don't think camera obscura counts either. Camera obscura is in Latin 'a dark chamber', however, while English may have many loan words from Latin, this term 'camera obscura' has not been incorporated into the English vocabulary and is still purely Latin. I'm assuming that it was used because of the band Camera Obscura. So I'm objecting to this on the basis that 'camera obscura' is not in fact English and therefore cannot be a case of juxtaposition.

Osiris
Mar 26th, 2013, 09:34 PM
I'm going to allow it, based on two things:

The majority of the English language we use today is derived from Old Latin, and a fair amount of our day to day common phrases are "pure" latin.

Rigor Mortis
Placebo
Carpe Diem

University mottoes, medical terminology, etc. No, I'm going to overrule the challenge.

Vlarken
Mar 26th, 2013, 10:23 PM
Well, it's actually 50/50 vocabulary wise. Half original Germanic words and half loan-words, but your overruling makes sense.

Considering that over 60% of English words have their roots in Latin in everyday usage--over 90% in sciences--I would say it makes perfect sense. Let's not discount French either.

French being a Romance language, I just lump it in with Latin, the language from which it stems. And I suppose you're right. It's an unfortunate fact, and a reason why I come to dislike the English tongue more and more with time. The grammar is simplified to the most boring extent, and the words that have true beauty are disregarded.

Just for clarification, its obviously not two words shoved together but can it be any two words making up a common term? How common is common. eg Holder Inequality is valid but uncommon.
As for moderating it I suggest any post that is clearly not valid should be down repped and deleted. We could keep a list of people and use a three strikes and your out system?
Just suggestions.

Sounds reasonable enough. tt would mean people would have to think a little bit more on those tough words and found an actual combo rather than just put b.s. and go from there (as I and others have unintentionally or intentionally have done). I'm just waiting for the whole thing to get resorted.

Foul!
http://avcssbasketball.com/content/images/FoulsViolations/intentional%20foul.jpg

I already came up with that one back on POST #434 (http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/showthread.php?4158-The-Never-ending-Link-Game-v-1-0&p=57510&viewfull=1#post57510) in this thread!

That was followed up by Lilydragon with "Overboard Ladder" and then "Ladder Rung", etc. Shame on you, Oldtype, for not having memorized each and every one of the 895 posts in this thread!!!

Are we getting cyclical now?
