some weeks ago i went to a hibachi grill with my fiances parents. (she was at her university and unavailable to join us, but her parents invited me along anyway. plus she doesn't like hibachi, something about the teriyaki.) the show was great, as always, and the food was delicious. as is common at hibachi grills, we were sitting next to some strangers, who also enjoyed the show, and the food. one of the great things about the hibachi is that you get to meet interesting people, and you get to have interesting conversations. as it turned out, our company was on their way back from the naval acadamy in annapolis maryland where they had been attending a reunion. one of our new friends, i kid you not, looked like long john silvers, and it was revealed that he had captained a vessel in the navy, and later as a merchant marine. we were sitting at the captains table. it was a great evening, but one of the quotes that really stuck with me was the captain proclaiming, as we discussed current events, "there are too many democrats and republicans and not enough americans."

i said all that to say this: the debates are over, it's time for a decision. but before you make that decision, i'd like to ask you to do one thing: take a step back, erase the party lines, and give one final hard look at the issues. boil out the rhetoric and the attacks, and distill the arguments down to their most base essence. i'd like to keep this thread free of political persuasion, i don't think any flaming or debateing will change anyones mind at this point, what i'm asking is that you simply use your best judgement, look at the issues, look at historical data throught history, on all sides, and make a true unbiased decision. if you come out where you already were, then you know you have been actually thinking, and not just listening to the rhetoric. i'll say this too, if you look at the evidence, and you can't find anything that argues against your position, you're not looking honestly. it's akin to scientists throwing out data that doesn't jive with their results. let's not go into the booths as republicans or democrats, but as americans voting for who is going to take a course of actions that is best for our nation. thank you.
