I've not had time time to look through anywhere else, so if I'm treading on toes then I apologise and, you got there first!
So here's the theory:-
We've had our Empire strikes back moments (see season 1 & 2 endings) So how about a little Return of the Jedi revenge?
Michael and the Irwin gang manage to get in touch with the Colony destruction crew via the Sat phone left behind by the team from Irwin. Along the way Col Kimmet gets wind of the dollar sized crack and the funky haze and in his new found rage of Zombie destruction (could possibly even know about some of all that's going on -why else would he not want anyone to tamper with the specimens?)
He wants to Nuke the area of L.A that has the Haze. But how will he get the bomb there? None of the choppers have the range for L.A? What about the Pelican that Datu the resourceful is going to repair? Yes that one. Season ends with Monsieur Zombie et al getting a nuclear size helping of whoop ass!
