As some of you are aware, i recently aquired a Big new project. this
http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1157&d=1315864629

while, yes..we(myself, and my brothers) will do many automotive related things there. this for me will serve as an excellent "base of operations" for my "all things kustom" art house..and i wont be going all bob villa in this thread..if you want to see someone restore a gas station...go watch hgtv of something...i will be updating work on the new canvas...
http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1158&d=1315864629
taking a mural/graffiti style approach to the far wall..here's the first draft
http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1156&d=1315864629
it may take a while for me to get things done here...but i will update this as progress happens...gives me a reason to take pictures of the process, if nothing else.............todd out

that is really cool, if you like graffiti style art, you could open the back wall to taggers with the express notice that anything gang related, profane or vulgar will be whited out, and if tagging appears anywhere else on the building the whole thing will be stopped and the cops called. just an idea. someone built a wall specifically for that and it gives street artists a legal outlet for their medium. depending on where you live this may be a really bad idea, a can of worms type of thing, but it would be something cool and help keep some of those kids out of trouble.

I like your thinking...but.. The shop is in a town of roughly 600....not much demand

I've never been into tagging..but recently I had my eyes opened to the different possibilities of "mixed medias" with Graff work as the basis...thats where all this started...i do agree though...need to be more "legal" ways to tag...its quite the art, once you understand it

Another fantastic idea my friend. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

oh most definitely, all you have to do is walk around a city. i have seem some true works of art on the walls of buildings. and more than that, it's a way for people to make a statement, a way for them to speak their mind. some of it is just garbage, gangs pissing their territory, penis and tit jokes, etc. but some is truly inspired. like i said, i'd like to see venues where these kids could really just let their work flow, where artistry would be showcased.

I would love to see that as well....but I really must say...watching exit through the gift shop put another new perspective on the whole thing...

To me, the world is the street artist's practice space....once established...your art becomes something more than some punk kid spraying paint on a wall...unfortunately, though...thats how a majority of these artist's get their start. I'm in no way promoting "illegal" activity with my opinion..its simply a fact...

But no...this is MY workshop...for MY work..though a trainee or two could be interesting...hmm

so a few small updates, our cleaning efforts have been hampered by the lack of power. well, the power company finally decided to come out yesterday and i now have lights....so in addition to other cleaning and basic painting of the "office". i managed to get a coat of primer on the graff wall...it's not the color i had in mind, at all....but it's something. while i was at it, i made up a quick stencil to decide how an idea ive been working on is gonna play out...
http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1171&d=1316006644
i did this in an area that will later be covered with black, so even if i switch the stencil design (which i plan to do, lil less blocky) it will never be seen again. i must say however, i do like the layout, and the way this thing is going...for a frame of reference...the entire wall will be done...each brick getting its own atk
http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1172&d=1316006668
with any luck, the weekend will be filled with painting...as i intend to pick up a few different shades of gray for some pre-stenciling fading and shading (and the proper dim gray color)....updates when that happens..............todd out

what does ATK stand for? other than that it looks really cool.

7oddisdead
Sep 15th, 2011, 03:51 PM
well, you asked
ATK...or all things kustom, is more or less just the title i tend to work under when doing more of the automotive type work i do. i tend to do work all across the board, not staying within any certain genre or style, but always putting my own spin on whatever i happen to be doing...hence the title... All things......kustom

I'm not the best in the world at taking photos of my work, so those are just a few examples...

THINGS OF NOTE:
i have never been into graffiti enough to "tag" with spray paint...When i was younger i did occasionally mess around with some krylon at a certain underpass that shall remain nameless...but that was the full extent of my experience with any type of "tagging" or namewriting, or however you choose to view it...and that experience was in 97-ish? Needless to say what ive done here is very new to me, not done in my style, and ultimately....just a test of colors to be used on the big project wall. The project wall wil be done in a diffent style than this...more stenciling, more hand drawn bits, etc.....but anyways

http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1186&d=1316262495

so as you can see there will be a large portion of the piece will be in the yellow/orange/red family. im very impressed with the quality of graff paint. that lil piece literally took me twenty minutes, by the time i got the feeling for the paint...the piece was done

next up is getting the entire shop primed so i can really get started

7oddisdead
Sep 19th, 2011, 05:50 AM
so i had a few cans of pink i got in an "assortment" pack of paint that i wanted to use...the final product i see happening on this wall requires zero.0 pink...so i experimented with a large piece. for one, i could use up that damn pink. for two, it gave me a good idea of how much paint these cans will lay down....i need to make another order........ :)

http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1209&d=1316435996

sadly, i dont even like this layout...the planning continues.....

you know i gotta tell you, i like the pink one, it's stylish. now don't get any funny ideas, i don't normally do pink (real men don't wear pink, and real vampires don't sparkle... and aren't emo) but that's just kind of hot this... pop to it. i like it.

A small yet very productive update here
Over the weekend I managed to get the rest of the shops interior painted a nice simple light grey.. The "wall" that is my canvas shall be done in black this morning...and the paint for "the BIG project just came in....pics as things happen...:D

http://www.zombiepodcast.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1239&d=1317134702

and i did a final piece for this wall....myself and my brothers all do work of some type here...so i went with the tag "halfacrebros" (halfacre being our last name)

very busy weekend, spent roughly 16 hours painting...just as a reminder i would suggest jump back to the first age and check the condition the shop space started in for reference....

and then

and there it is...i say 90% done, but the other ten percent is simply some small changes i may or may not make.....so for the most part, this is a finished product

This is freaking awesome. Just saying. I am jealous now, I want it. Or your talent.... lol :D I love it. I was looking at this while my friend was looking over my shoulder, he thought it was amazing too. The end.

love your work man, so what are the other 10% of changes you were thinking of?

7oddisdead
Oct 5th, 2011, 06:48 AM
adjustments to the lettering,(shading on the interior tightened up) and im not satisfied with the bit on the wall under the tire rack thing...it will be totally redone...repaint the wall that light gray..the other half of the "o" the "M" and the repeating atk pattern in white over the top..subtle, yet cool

reaper239
Oct 5th, 2011, 07:05 AM
if you're going for subtle you could always make th ATK letters outline block instead of the block you're using now. of course that could make it really hard to read.

7oddisdead
Oct 5th, 2011, 08:16 AM
I don't have a problem with it being hard to read actually...i will probly use a combo of the style stencil I have now, the reverse block like you speak of, and a simple writing style..the overall goal being to at first look like im simply mapping out what I'm going to do in the future..but when you look closely..the amount of detail in the simple whites and grays make it apparent that it's a finished product. Best way to describe it is "blueprint style, in the color of ghosts"...:)

Oh yea...and I may have a trick it two for a lol something...involving 6 rolls of painters tape...

reaper239

My silly computer is being difficult but only some minor updates...

I've selected a theme for the outer bathrooms, work on them will begin soon...lot of bob villa style boringness here for a little while..but it will be men > crows...women>sparrows..with all the appropriate painting and decorum that goes along with that...should be interesting :)
