If theres two helicopters, Kalani and Pegs flying them. which one you flying in?
The ones Michael is in of course. i think that one isnt going to make it and will kill off those characters.

I love that the logic you used is taking the storytelling medium as the logic and not the actual circumstances. Watch Saul be able to fly, and we just don't know about it. He did know how to rig knots for zip lines, maybe, just maybe, he was trained for other aerial maneuvers.

He trained with mountain troops, I think that's where he got the know-how to do that. Then again, he may have also conveniently happened to have trained with a unit with access to choppers, who knows?

I'd be flying with Kalani. He's the more experienced pilot, so he'd more likely get me home safe. And he's not distracted by that pesky concience Pegs seems to have.

Saul is just a regular Infantryman. He's not going to have the technical knowledge to fly Helicopters. In the first episode Michael says that he came from the Mountain Div. in NY which would be the 10th Mtn Div. while they do have helicopters there they focus more on being regular light infanty. Light infantry's mission is to close with and destry the enemy... on foot. To go with what J0be was saying any training he has had with Helicopters would be just how to get on and off of them without getting his head chopped off by the rotars.
Even if he was in an Air Assault unit like the 101st the Army wouldn't have trained him how to fly.

Edit: and I'm with you I'd go with Kalani!

hahah. Good Answer Leedo! You know what Dude.. you just put a really big hole in the Saul is the Rat theory people are trying to push. I knew Saul wasn't from Cali due to the fact they mentioned he moved to Cali because of the women, but i missed the NY reference even knowing the 10th MD was his unit.
Soooo.. he had to have gotten in trouble prior to moving to Cali, because he was already enlisted by that time. Therefore....... wait for it, he wouldn't know any of the convicts from Eastern Bay (besides the fact he was in Jail and not Prison).

Hmm... I took it as he moved BACK to Cali. I was assuming that he joined while living in CA then got stationed at Ft. Drum. I really never thought that Saul would have been the rat any way because of the feelings he had towards Michael Lizzy and even Angel and Burt. He has that kinship that's fostered like in a military unit with the people that he was "stuck" with. I used to think it was Kalini as he was the new guy or Kelly because she is/was just like that (maybe had a Maller as a client?). I kind of gave up guessing who the rat is and just look forward to being supprised LOL!

You're both a little wrong. It doesn't state which specific unit he was in.

He came to our unit with the rank of specialist from Mountain Division. I guess he got tired of the cold weather.

Just going by what I remember, Michael mentioned NY and add to that the only "Mountain Division" in the Army is the 10th Mnt Div. in Ft. Drum NY I just did the math ;) .

Again in the WA universe there might be other units similar or maybe KC just didn't want to put the actual unit in the show.

I dont think Michael will get killed off. But if we survived the crash of a helicopter, I would rather have Michael there to lead us onward than say Steven or Kalani. I hope theres not flying zombies to look out for. That'd be very scary.

exactly.. in the Army you can tell where a person is from by their Division. It's something civilians won't catch. Especially as a reservist, he couldn't live in Cali and drill with the 10th way on the east Coast.

Saul is from California originally. We discussed this on WND episode 12. And at least Greg, Britt and myself thought he was from somewhere else originally because of the California girls line. However, when he talks about his mother moving, it wasn't "She moved West" it was "She moved South." In order for her to just be moving south and not clear across the country, he'd have to be originally from Cali.

The cold reference could be the cold of the mountains or cold up NY.. I'm betting it's just from dealing with the mountaneous climates.

Bingo. I play with numbers of units from the actual ones. The units from the warehouse are real, but maybe one number off. Using Mountain Division as a name I can get away without using 10th Mountain.

The 10th Mnt is regular Army so I'm guessing Saul did what I did and got out of Active Duty and joined the Reserves/National Guard. I'm from Ohio and was stationed in Tennesee on Active duty

Well Technically I was stationed in KY since Ft. Campbell sits on the KY TN border and the base post office is in KY but most of the base is in TN

I think that there is absoloutly no way that Michael will be killed off. Michael is the main character and the story took place from his perspective to begin with. With that said, at the begining of EVERY episode it says "We're Alive.. A Story of Survival."... just my thoughts.

It could be that one will go down in a random area, but some will make it to have to try and find their way on foot.
If you go with the inexperienced chopper pilot, it will be less full and likely that they will put some of the more experienced people there just in case something happens. Also, Kalani might land first so will have to deal with whoever/whatever might be there already.

I think I can agree to Kalani maybe having a tough time with a different bird than what he used for sightseeing in survival. But lets look at it like this. We may not know his entire background. Could have been a flight trainer. Maybe has some other background in flying before he was doing the sightseeing gig. Though I would have thought if he had a military past with helicopters that he may have mentioned it. You can look at it like thisn Kalani had to go from whatever little bird he flew sightseeing with to a Boeing 767 or 717-200 of Hawaiian Airlines to make the hop from the islands to the mainland. Thats nt an easy switch either and he pulled it off, including landing. So with that I figure he may be able to familerize himself with a larger helicopter. Train someone I am not as sure of. That seems like it would take alot of fuel, time, and noise. So I figure they will find someone that has some training already. We will see. On another note the coast guard bird may have been a Sikorsky HH-60J Jayhawk, and Blackhawk basically. Can carry 4 crew and 6 passengers. May not be as big as a Sea King but it may be "bigger than they could have hoped for." Never know.

The helicopter definitely isn't a Jayhawk. In 22-2, 17:35, Saul tells Datu, "the ramp's down in the back", after which they enter through the tail ramp. The HH-3F Pelican (Jolly Green Giant) is the only Coast Guard Helicopter I know of that had a ramp; the HH-60J Jayhawk doesn't.

Didn't Kahlani fly a Hawaiin Airlines plane to LAX? Do you think that was the same Hawaiin Airlines plane that Burt and Saul saw crashed on the runway? Funny if he failed to mention that. Makes me wonder if I really want to fly with the guy.

Kalani did tell them back in chapter 11 he had a rough landing when he arrived in L.A. And if he did navigate a plane down to the ground on crowded runways full of abandoned planes, I'd fly with him any day. That can't have been an easy task to pull off and walk away in one piece.
